The victim was hit by a car as he tried to cross the road, before later being struck by another vehicle as he lay injured

A 28-year-old man was tragically killed in a horror crash in which he was hit by two cars near Manchester city centre. Emergency services raced to the fatal collision on Water Street at around 2.30am on July 5.

Enquiries suggest the first vehicle hit the pedestrian and fled the scene. The second vehicle then also hit the victim who was lying injured in the road. The driver of the second vehicle stayed at the scene and assisted officers with their enquiries, Greater Manchester Police have said. The road was closed off after the collision, as a cordon was also put on place on Regent Road and a number of surrounding streets close to the Mancunian Way.
