PM drafts in a 'national treasure' to promote petrol and diesel car ban

The Glasgow climate change conference, COP26, has been hit by controversy after the sacking of his president, former Tory energy minister Claire Perry O'Neill, by the government last week.

But speaking ahead of the summit launch, Mr Johnson said:"Hosting COP26 is an important opportunity for the UK and nations across the globe to step up in the fight against climate change. "There can be no greater responsibility than protecting our planet, and no mission that a global Britain is prouder to serve. 2020 must be the year we turn the tide on global warming - it will be the year when we choose a cleaner, greener future for all.

Speaking at the Conservative conference in Manchester conference last September, the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said it was the government's desire to improve on its target of a ban in 2040.

What is Mr Attenborough's carbon footprint?

Car manufacturers race to sign his name to endorse an all electric car ...the Nissan 'Attenborough'

Looks like you have 15 years then to build at least two new power stations to cope with the demand and all those new ev's; let's hope you can do it quicker than your HS2.

How much will you give me for my worthless diesel car that you encouraged me to buy so I can get an electric car that uses fossil fuel to charge.

The PM needs to increase production of green electricity and be able to allow motorists access to charging areas as they have access to petrol stations. Can you imagine the queues waiting on motorways to get to a charging point Petrol fill up and go. On charge 30min/2hrs then go.

Attenborough is a hypocritical pain in the ar*se. Clocks up thousands of air miles interfering with turtles and lectures me for choosing a gov recommended Diesel. These characters should wind their necks in until there is an affordable alternative with supporting infrastructure

Are we going to get a ban on private jets for the rich and famous too? Oh no of course not

Woke politics even with an 80 seat majority

Adam Bant has been working fervently on his cow fart methane powered cars, Only 0.9 octane rating so Fred Flinstone open chassis is a hybrid option!

ros_tinkler It is difficult to charge a car when you cannot park outside or even in the same street as your abode. 27.6m households. On average 25% parked on roads (Spaced Out RAC 2012), 60% in many places. So a minimum of 6.9m charging points at £1,000 each?

Thank you for telling me what my opinion should be instead of just reporting the story, Sky!

Attenborough, despite the best efforts of the BBC, is not a *national treasure*. Given his chairmanship of a UN quango dedicated to reducing the UK population by half. Unless Jimmy Savile is also to be remembered as *a national treasure*.

About time he was put out to pasture.Bellamy rip would have torn h apart in a climate debate.

Literally, FFS 🙄

No no no I’m saving for a mustang

They bring in a man who must have hundreds of thousands of air miles that makes sense

And the plan for millions of batteries that are extremely toxic for thousands of years is . . . ?

Technology Can't even Get Smart Meters to work...

If we all got electric cars the national grid would go into meltdown. It’s already running at about 97% capacity.

Good aim but not convinced we can do it so quick! Price of new electric cars is shocking!

But could he first apologise to the 17.4 millions.. watching in B/W TV,(dodgy horizontal hold),while he flew,criss-crossed exotic Nations in his private 'plane showing us the World, which we can never travel to

Well he can fuck right off.
