2GB broadcaster Luke Grant said there used to be a “sense that if you buy a Holden you’re doing the right thing by Australia” but that “went awry as soon as they stopped making the Holden commodore”. Hundreds of people are set to lose their jobs by the year's end as General Motors axes Holden after 72 years of operation in Australia. Mr Grant said in general Australian consumers don’t tend to buy domestic products in order to save a business.

According to Sky News Host Peta Credlin “Not many people confess that right now they drive a Holden car and that’s part of the problem.” “The rubber hit the road in 2013-14 when Holden and other domestic producers at that stage were basically blackmailing the Coalition,” to put billions of dollars of taxpayers money into their private businesses.
