: Two trailer drivers were killed when their vehicles grazed, causing them to lose control of the machines which then plunged into a ravine in an incident at Kilometre 421.4 of the North South Expressway today.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Arsad Kamaruddin identified the victims as S. Esaias, 44, of Sungai Lalang, Bedong, Kedah, and Asmawi Abdullah, 46, of Parit Sungai Abdullah, Bagan Serai, Perak. He said Esaias and Asmawi, who were at the wheel of a Hino trailer, which was laden with iron rods, and a Scania trailer laden with steel cupboards, respectively, died at the scene in the 5 am crash.

“The trailer with Esaias at the wheel was heading from Batu Kurau, Perak, to Kuala Lumpur grazed with Asmawi’s trailer, which was on the emergency lane, causing both vehicles to veer and plunge into a ravine. “Both of them sustained head and body injuries and were pronounced dead by paramedics from the Sungai Buloh Hospital,” he told reporters here today.
