Getting 1m electric cars on the road by 2030 a ‘huge challenge’ via IrishTimesBiz

Meeting a Government target to have almost a million electric vehicles on the road by 2030 will be “a huge challenge” unless the Government incentivises and supports dealing with the oldest polluting cars, according to a new report., which was commissioned by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, stated that in order to deal with the older legacy fleet, help will be required for those with the least economic capacity to make the biggest change.

Analysis within the report shows that removal of all these cars and replacing them with EVs would reduce carbon emissions by 875,000 tonnes which is the equivalent of planting over 1.1 billion trees, which would almost cover the entirety of Co Clare. “Supply disruptions wrought by Covid-19, Brexit and the global chip supply shortage, combined with potential rare mineral shortages keeping battery prices high, has further delayed the availability of electric vehicles,” it continued.

Why not make public transport free and this EVs target will magically disappear in a puff of smoke. See podcast from davidmcw for how to finance it:

cars are a horrendous waste of space Less cars more bikes and PT

IrishTimes Don't. Simply don't. We need fewer cars not newer cars.

Stop fooling around with BEVs and switch to hydrogen . It's easier to do cos you need far less H2 stations because of the faster throughput.
