LEADERSHIP reports that following the withdrawal of services by clearing agents on Monday over the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) valuation policy

It was gathered that PTML has over 10,000 unit of vehicles while Five Star Logistics Terminal has capacity to receive over 5000 units of vehicles. This, however, causes fear among the terminal operators who said congestion will soon hit their terminals if the strike action isn’t called off.

Keshinro who appealed to the Customs, and clearing agents to shelter their sword said his terminal has capacity to handle over 10,000 unit of vehicles. Also speaking, the customer care manager, Five Star Logistics Terminal, Tin-Can Island port, Chuks Okereafor, said the terminal was almost filled up as well.

For RORO service, the capacity is a little bit above 5000 unit but, expect the Customs and clearing agents to resolve the issue as quickness possible andnof possible, the federal government should intervene by looking into the issue to see a way of resolving it because the service withdrawal that started since Monday affected PTML and Five Star Logistics Terminal,” he said

“They have to reverse the policy so that people can go back to work. We must agree on value and we must put a lot of things into consideration because the law says tokunbo vehicles enjoys rebate and that hasn’t been implemented in the new policy as they still use internet value which is not admissible if not, clearing agents will continue with the strike,” he said.

“Clearing agents have been engaged at PTML and Tin Can Island and their leaders have been spoken to. We told them what the service intend to do going forward and we will carry out more enlightenment on this issue by next week. We will be in Lagos for a town hall meeting with stakeholders and hopefully we will resolve this issue once and for all.
