I understand that it is possible to file a claim against the District for damage done to cars by potholes.
My car was pretty much totaled in a pothole incident. The damage renders it un-driveable, and the repair would be almost double what I think I could have sold it for. The forms ask for repair costs and receipts, but I’m selling it for parts, for much less than I could have sold it as a working vehicle. Does the sale negate my claim? Some online advice says to include proof the District was liable, such as a 311 repair request that wasn’t fulfilled.
What about tripping over the extremely uneven sidewalk and cracking your new phone ?
Also not a terrible idea to reach out to your ANC rep about it. That helped me. ANC1A mwraydc was very helpful.
I'm going through the process right now. Seems to be turning out relatively well so far, but haven't gotten to the payment. Some tips: 1) Take pictures of damage before you get anything fixed. 2) Get receipts for everything. 3) Follow the detailed instructions on the website.
