– Interstate 95 southbound near the exit for State Road 9B was closed Thursday evening due to police activity, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Details were not immediately clear. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office could only confirm they were in the area for a traffic stop. A News4JAX employee was traveling southbound on I-95 when their dash camera captured a vehicle traveling on the shoulder at a high rate of speed. Several police cruisers appeared to be pursuing the SUV.News4JAX has a crew working to gather more information.
I had spoken to a dispatcher on the nonemergency line about 20 min after emergency vehicles parked in that area. I was told that it was a kidnapping and the vehicle went off into the retention pond. When I passed, I didn’t see any vehicles in the water so it must be underwater
At some point the county/state/feds will realize how dangerous this stretch of road is. Realistically they just don't care.
