A new report reveals electric vehicles come with big savings for Canadians, especially with the current cost of fuel.

A new report reveals electric vehicles come with big savings, especially with the current cost of fuel.

Now that gas is sitting close to $2 a litre, Zacharias estimates savings would jump as high as $24,000. “Year on year, we're seeing more and more interest in electric vehicles across all parts of Canada. And again, recent gas prices have not done nothing but just spurred that interest,” Zacharias said.

The survey also found more Canadians are inclined to buy an electric or hybrid vehicle next time they purchase a new car, 18 per cent and 20 per cent respectively. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a plan to have 20 per cent of light-vehicle sales be zero emissions by 2026, 60 per cent by 2030, and 100 per cent by 2035.

EV is an investment in itself. Being in the energy management \rindustry, we assure you of never-ending benefits. Companies have started \rworking on manufacturing parts, full-fledged. If you have an EV, you are \rhelping the nation while you help yourself.

this is bullshit.... batteries, maintenance not even mentioned

3. Cold weather reduces charge by up to 1/2 meaning travel is greatly reduced in winter. Heating vehicle requires electricity reducing travel distance even further. 4.Chargers use an incredible amount of power. Running anywhere from 5kw to 50kw, putting a huge draw on systems.

Can one of these cars tow a camper ?

This is wildly inaccurate. Shame on you.

Okay but they don't exist for purchase

Bullshit, surging energy prices will just ruin that as more demand pushes up the supply price and huge infrastructure investments need to be recouped.

More for profit propaganda. How sweet it is to not have to think up your own original material for publication. Just write what the overlord tells you to...Even if its totally misleading and immoral.

Since this is all about environment and saving it, when these cars die completely, where do we dump all the PLASTIC (oil based) and huge batteries? Asking for my kids future Just saying

Absolutely true. Bought our first EV almost 10 years ago. It was a Plugin Hybrid Chevy Volt it ran on electric power 90% of the time. I call it the gateway drug to EV driving. Would never go back to a non plugin vehicle now.

People who want EVs know exactly why they want them. They can’t build them fast enough. Tesla is sold out into 2023. Operating costs are lower. Garages will have less work. progress

How about you do some actual reporting instead of relying on the falsified data of your chosen 'expert' mediawhores

No thanks.

Not true. Have you looked at financing? Do you not think hydro will increase? Insurance is also higher. So......where is the savings?

No mention of the emissions created producing electric vehicles

Paid for by the Electric Vehicle Foundation (or whatever)

What about battery replacement at 20%+ the value of the car within a short period of time

E cars cost 10k more that is about 100 tank fulls ontop of your regular tanks to pay for it’s self. Not worth it

hrmm. no. not true

Can they pull a trailer through the mountain passes?

'CTV' lol🤡

Electric vehicles are a good feature and will be on demand in the future, but they’re too expensive and not quite adequate yet.

The way vehicle pricing is going, gas or electric, fewer people will be able to afford them.

That's like saying everyone can save a bundle if they don't have a car and walk everywhere. Not too many of us can afford the sticker price.

Not so much savings if you factor in battery replacement cost and repair costs I believe.

I guess lost gas tax revenue will eventually be added to the electricity rates for EV charging.

Yes because you cant go any where

Still wouldn't get one, you can only get them in automatic.

Fact: The batteries are toxic, expensive and not renewable. They will need to be disposed of at great cost. Will EV owners pay for that? EV's are a technology Ponzi scheme for the rich created by the grifter class of politicians at the expense of working-class people.

please leave me alone to choose, and tell the leftist government to stop using tax payers money to off set the price of electric cars

EV's are fit for purpose no different than a diesel pick up pulling horse trailer. I got some 'what for' during a fuel up of my 'gas guzzling' pickup once. ' Karen' was driving a Mazda of some sort, I asked her if she could pull a horse trailer with her car, conversation over.

But destroying the earth twice as fast, no thanks

Until everyone has one then electricity price's will sore!

The minimum gross annual salary required to afford a base model Tesla 3 EV in Canada, considering the $5,000 rebate, 10% down-payment, & monthly payments at 20% of gross income is $158,064. That's about 3x the median wage. Not including charging fees or repairs

Sure.....except people can't finance the higher price tag you idiots. Good to know wealthy people can save money while poorer ones pay through the ass or take the bus....or ride their' bicycles to work 20 to 30km every freakin day.

I challenge Baby Trudeau to discuss EVs w/ YouTube star Scotty Kilmer.

My Truck is paid for and will drive another 800k if maintained. Why would I take out a high interest loan to save money on gas?

Rethink your math... 🤔

No they don’t lol

Not really because sitting at the side of the road with a dead battery because there is hardly anywhere to charge up is the real world?

I mean, as much as I’d love to have an electric car for my family, I don’t see elonmusk randomly sending me a Tesla in the mail anytime soon.

What a load of crap. The cost of recycling the battery after make the cars worthless, no trade in value, no resale value, minimum any where from $2500 to $28000 cost to replace the battery.

And battery disposal, not to mention accidents causing Lithium fires. Electric is not the way to go.

cleanenergycan A lot of good qu in these comments.

Sure, after 56 years of owning the thing.

This is misinformation

Nope, not until the range of driving is better and I can charge it at home. Until then it’s useless

Not for people who live in older buildings. Not for rural Canadians. Not for people who don't live near a charging station. Not for people who don't have the means to 'just buy' an EV because of gas prices.

Start your week with more misinformation from state sponsored ctv.

Any truth to batteries not last as long in colder climates, like, you know, Canadian winters?

Complete BS!

Blah blah blah EV vehicles are not ready to replace all gas vehicles, the infrastructure is not ready and the cost difference between gas amd EV comparable vehicles is still thousands of dollars. So why is this a good ideal?

Do you know if you don’t pay your Tesla they can take it away from but , they don’t pick it up the car can be operated by the the tow truck , the tow truck or Tesla company can unlock it and move it remotely.Without the owner being present . Just saying.

Bull crapyola

No charge capability in apartment buildings so not feasible for many

Less than $10 for a full charge, and every morning you wake up to a 100% charge.....

Who pays for the charging station for 240/30amp. How many 100amp homes still. Apt, Condo Charging Tesla: Level 1)120v =20-40hrs. Level 2) 240/30amp =8-12 hours. Plus requires elec. install and/or upgrade. We are nowhere close.

They forget the price of new batteries So resell price goes to zero as the life of battery expires and new one is for more expensive then u can sell car for

Horse sh!t In summer in Ontario Toronto has brown outs... How you going to charge your cars? Ontario has Wind, Thunder Occasional Tornadoes that takes power out... Yeah I'll keep gas thanks...also Trudeau is a Human Piece of Waste

Not when you need a Truck… My need is more important and I can always drag a car back to road?

CTV News is fake news ctvnewsfakenews

I'm with GasPriceWizard. Very little discussion on whether our electricity infrastructure can handle this ambitious vision. Wouldn't be surprised if the feds have put no thought into this and blame the provinces for not upgrading infrastructure.

Just ordered mine last week. Eeeek! Soooo excited for it to arrive.

explaining the code the statement is exactly the one use by the investment ciminals GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY AND IN FIFTY YEARS YOU CAN LIVE IT UP LIKE I DO. The only answer suitable ...GO FUK YOURSELF!!!!!!

Gas = 2/litre KM = 10000/yr Consumption = 12 lt/100kms Cost = 2400/yr Nissan Rogue 2021 Basic: 31K + 16800 (fuel cost for 7yrs) + 5K (Service Oil Change 7 yr) Grand Cost: 53K So can anyone suggest an EVM in 53K with a throughput of Nissan Rogue 2021

This is basically a BIG lie, depreciation is the key, assumption here is that EV HAS 60 pct value at 8 years, reality is zero.

The first thing that is wrong with this is most Canadians can’t buy one

you better have your reporter check out his story. Electric cars DO NOT SAVE DRIVERS 'THOUSANDS OF $$$$'

I love my big blue regular gas f150 . Thank you but no thanks 😊

Limousine liberals and champagne socialists will never understand

EV's as they are now are not a viable choice for most Canadians. Too expensive & not enough range. Not to mention the lack of right to repair, and global shortage of lithium.

Electric cars are great until we all have one then we don't have the power to charge them all..ah yeah we can just build more power lines I guess.

cleanenergycan A lot of anti-ev on here. 🤦‍♂️. You do realize it’s inevitable, and burying your heads in the sand will ruin the auto sector in Canada. Look at all the opportunities for mining communities in Canada for example, not to mention the recent investments in Windsor.

It's not about future savings, despite the high initial cost to purchase, the problem is the availability of charging stations especially since half of the people live in condos or apartments with many tenants, that currently have zero stations. It will never work for them.

When then main manufacture of the ev’s has an electric rocket since the falcon burns how much fuel each time then maybe I’ll by into it because I’m pretty sure that carbon footprint is significantly more

BS

this is still carculture autocentric and need to share the ride , Need electric transit

Until the battery dies…..

Now if I could just afford the thousands of dollars to get one ...

And what happens to the batteries when the car dies. Environmental disaster is what I see.

seems the hydro grid had problems keeping up with the ac demand on the hotter days last summer just a question were will the scrap ev go , a land fill? few parts are interchangeable between models or years

Just don't ask Jason Kenney to plug it in for you.

Lol ya ok

EVs use roads and highways but don’t contribute to upkeep via gas taxes. cdnpoli

Is it a overall information/ misinformation or disinformation!!

Ya because we can all afford a new GODDAMNED car right 🙄🤬

Bullshit!! And after 8-10 years when the batteries are garbage $20000 to replace! All batteries have a life!

If ctvnews is telling you, 100% sure is the opposite.

What about the battery replacement costs in 10-15 years? HUGE cost !

The money I save on fuel covers the difference in the bi-weekly payments to finance the electric vehicle (Assuming you didn't buy a high-end Tesla).

The initial cost buying a new EV that is the key. Lower cost & people will adopt the technology faster. I would like to. Though I can’t afford to buy a $40k+ vehicle with all the other daily living costs going sky high. More EV sedans and compacts are needed. Enough SUV & trucks.

Maybe so but you have buyer reluctance as electric cars too damn expensive for the consumer!

Long term costs are high!

Hybrid is the future

The current infrastructure won’t be able to handle electric vehicles. We had a power outage this year because of lack of supply from Hydro One, add thousands of electric vehicles and see what happens!

All families won't be able to afford electric vehichles wake up and smell the coffee we have the working poor and the rich there is no more middle class so who can afford this you also need a charging station at your residence?

🇨🇦 needs to stop its addiction to fossil fuels asap! This would keep us off the blood-stained oil from UAE, Saudis, Qatar, Venezuela, etc. They're parasites!

Conservatives are shocked by electric. 😏

ok till the battery goes flat and your nowhere near a charging station, tow companies are going to be elated

Hydro bills are going through the roof

La solution: la transition vers les véhicules électriques ⚡️ doit se faire immédiatement. Le Québec est aux premières loges nord-américaine avec son énorme réseau hydroélectrique. HydroQuébec Climat PolQc PolCan

Yes they do

Don’t cities like Toronto have trouble supporting air conditioning in the summer? How would that go with everyone charging their cars as well?

The real question here is the amount of energy loss from our temperatures.I have read that during winter the electric cars can loose as much as 30% of tge distance because of the cold. Is this actually good for the enviroment when you are charging more to account for this loss?

It cost a ev over $22k and or more

Lol

That’s today. Until they ding us more to charge our cars.

Apartment buildings. Where will they charge?

Only a matter of time before the government learns to tax the hell of it just like gas.

That isn't true.

Or you can drive a Toyota Corolla and get 40 miles per gallon

Let’s see the comparative breakdown of electrical cost to support an EV… generation costs (including carbon capture), transmission costs, local grid upgrade costs, costs to upgrade home service to meet the requirements, homeowners cost per kWh)

It will cost billions to build the plug-in station Who is going to pay to upgrade the grid to handled the new power requirement from plug-in station? How is the govt going to makeup for the lost gas tax revenue Is CAN going streamline mining regs?

Make them free like the vaccines.

What kind of bullsheet is this? What’s your time worth? When out I gotta wait for a charger and then wait another hour to charge. Yahhh. I don’t think so. CTV is not news. It’s a propoganda machine. Just churning out the daily narrative to brain dead sheep.

This is doublespeak straight out of 1984. By state-sponsored media no less.

And mining for their battery 🔋 parts causing misery and poverty in Africa 🌍 but we never hear about that

They are also helping to save our planet !

😂😂😂😂

Where is the power coming from? How long before Trudeau starts taxing electricity to run electric cars. TRUDEAU MUST GO

😂😂

I spend a little over $8000 in gas per year. I change my brake discs and pads once a year. An EV would be less for me. My last car lasted till 382,000 km until the catalytic converter died and I started having issues with my transmission. My next car will be an EV.

with the cost of living at a all time high most Canadians are worried about housing and feeding their families not spending 40k on a car ....

I’ll buy one when I buy my own house.

100% untrue

Who commissioned the study?

It will be two years this July since I last bought gas How much is it , LoveMyGreenMini

AbhijeetMonet Reality. Governments investing in electric rail and bus service plus accessible walking and cycling infrastructure will save Canadians far more money. Plus save lives and reduce injuries.

Currently EV's are subsidized and don't pay near the taxes of 'fuel' that ICE vehicles do. How long is that going to last before the system crumbles?

shaaadaaaap

Er no duh. You just hire a mathematician or something?

Even in Saskatchewan, where they don’t give you a rebate for going green, they make you pay $1,000 extra for buying an electric vehicle. Whenever I cross the border to Saskatchewan I speed up to 88 miles an hour so I can go back in time.

Lmao, until you have to replace the battery. May as well take out a second mortgage now to prepare.

Bull. Northerners cant afford it

Most electric cars are still too expensive at initial purchase. I wonder what the ecological damage is from the battery industry and eventually the spent batteries. It may be reducing carbon emissions now but it will increase heavy toxic metal poisoning in our water and land!

Klansberta triggered

We own 2 Toyota hybrids. We're half way there.

Some really big assumptions here. Like ignoring total cost of each vehicle and factoring only depreciation. As they say…..your mileage may vary. 🤷🏻

Guys! Before you go out and buy an EV make sure you have full ownership of the vehicle, unlike a Tesla Following link has more.

I passed on Tesla, due to the issues, and their scumbag owner. Rivian and LucidMotors make incredible vehicles, but may be price prohibitive, even with Canada's meager $5K grant Lots of choices

I don’t understand how they can be cheaper when the utility company charges 3x your usage in fees. Do the batteries drain over time? I don’t drive everyday so the cost of the vehicle and upgraded power grid would make it cost more I think.

I don't see where the savings are, I hope someone proves wrong, I will immediately go for an EV.

from google: Level 3 charging/direct current ( DC ) is the fastest level of charging (400 Volts/100 Amps). Level 3 stations charge a battery from empty to 80% in 30-45 minutes with approximately 250 km range per hour of charging.Jan 25, 2022

Do you think Electricty price never changed?

To bad when winter comes you would freeze to death

Want to know if there are chargers in your area? Check out Around my place there are more charging stations than gas stations.

No. False statement. You are discredited.

Said no one ever.

Oh noes! Don't tell Kenney or Moe!

ElizabethMay I drive one of these at work, and it has already saved my company lots of money and maintenance headaches, it's also a better overall driving experience. Let the troll crickets here chirp, the people driving EV'S KNOW, and more and more people are buying them once they drive one.

You imbecile, it DOES NOT Take a look at an average cost of a supercharge for a low range Tesla around GTA/Southern Ont. Almost $25😳😳 Heck, my Nissan Sentra cost me almost $60 full tank and it gives me ~560km. Honda Fit or Nissan Versa are even way better fuel mileage

Bullshit

The other electric vehicles out there cost way too much to fix and there aren't many dealers who have licensed guys that can work on them.

Thats garbage

Nope they won't. Teslas you can't even take them to a dealer to get them worked on, a tesla truck has to come and fix it for you. They take it right up into the truck. If you do take it to a dealer that can do work on electrical vehicles then elon musk will blacklist the car

How many ?

ElizabethMay 3 years in, 210,000 km and we’re killing the savings.

Delusional

There needs to be an appropriate infrastructure then all of the EVs’ benefits will truly materialize… fast chargers, location of chargers…etc.

🤡s

Ok

How do they make the batteries and where do they go when done with ? If the electric grid goes how does one drive anywhere ?

The money Trudeai spent over the last 7 years he could have given every Canadian $1,647,325.00 with could have gone a long way for all.

till they break🤡

I can’t stand waiting for bus for 10 minutes how am I supposed to wait for 1 hour or more to charge a EV ? Also full charge gets average 500km that’s only around 4 hour drive time before you need to wait another 1 or more hours to charge

I'm just here for the comments from butthurt conservatives.

Yeah right 🙄

False

until you need to replace the battery...20k plus not to mention the pollution a used up battery creates but hey YOLo

That’s inaccurate information. Do the math. Electric vehicles plus the power to charge them is $125,000 over 10 years, gas car is 60% of that, maybe, less if you’re driving fuel efficient vehicles. $40,000 car and $3000 a year for fuel is $70,000 over 10 years

What is the cost difference without the government subsidy for the EV? Cheaper over time until the utilities justify electricity shortages due to increased loads of EVs and then they jack up your hydro rates. But don't worry they have rivers they can dam up to charge your cars.
