'It was unbelievable to see — I just didn’t think it’d be humanly possible to build a house that quickly.' starchicmag

Baz Ashmawy has told how he “learned a lot” from the families on the upcoming season of DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland.

Liam Flynn and Anthony Darby from Collen Construction lead the new build team, and are joined by specialist carpenters Dan Kenny and Nicky McMahon. This year, the four-part series will be heading to New Ross, Meath, Santry and Waterford City. “He was given a short kind of diagnosis of a couple years at best. He was living in accommodation, but it wasn’t going to suit him. When I first met him, he was on a crutch and he was going to be in a wheelchair — which he’s in now. The home wasn’t going to be accessible for him, his wife and his kids.

Baz added that it is going to be an amazing season — and that there were “two kinds of notes” to the show that made it stand out. “But once you’re around these families, all of a sudden you get a glimpse into people’s worlds where they’re dealing with a hell of a lot more than you are. It grounds you, and it makes you feel grateful and lucky for your situation.
