Boris Johnson has made a top-secret visit to war-torn Ukraine to offer Volodymyr Zelensky armoured vehicles and anti-ship missiles and heap praise on the “invincible heroism and courage” of the Ukrainian people.
Zelensky took his British counterpart on a walking tour of the bombed ruins of inner-city Kyiv, speaking with locals who greeted them warmly, while being watched closely by security. “Having been here in Kyiv for just a few hours, I have no doubt ... that an independent sovereign Ukraine will rise again thanks above all to the heroism, the courage of the people of Ukraine,” he said. “Thank you very much and slava Ukraini.
He said Britain would supply the equipment, the technology, the know-how and the intelligence, so that “Ukraine will never be invaded again”, and pledged to “liberalise trade with Ukraine as we go forward”.“This visit is a manifestation of strong, significant, constant support of the United Kingdom for Ukraine. We appreciate it and will remember it,” he said.
