The San Francisco Sierra Club joined one of two groups suing the U.S. Postal Service to stop the purchase of thousands of gas-powered trucks in the hopes of pushing the agency to modernize its fleet with electric vehicles.

One lawsuit was filed by the San Francisco Sierra Club along with Earthjustice, Center for Biological Diversity, CleanAirNow KC. Another was filed by the Natural Resources Defense Council and United Auto Workers in New York. Environmental advocates contend the Postal Service’s environmental review was inadequate and flawed, and that the contract represented a missed opportunity to electrify the fleet and reduce emissions.
