“We as a nation really have inherited generations of traffic engineering only focused on getting cars from point A to point B very quickly,” said one councilmember.
“This alone won’t solve the issue of safety on the streets, but it’s a good first step,” said Salt Lake City Council Vice Chair Darin Mano, who also represents District 5. During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, two members of the city’s Transportation Division said that about 70% of the capital’s streets would be affected.
He said the division recognized the benefits of lower speed limits, especially when it comes to injuries involving “vulnerable” users.
And all those fatalities involved DUI. No way is a 20 mph speed limit going to stop DUI’s.
Duh, this would require enforcement. Cops in Utah don’t seem to want to enforce traffic laws AT ALL. The only time you’d need to worry about a speeding ticket is on the highway— DPS at least tries and fails.
Utah is such a damn nanny state.
