Police presented the report to the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners at Thursday’s monthly meeting. They reported 84 pursuits last year and 79 arrests, compared to 96 pursuits and 95 arrests in 2020. Of the 84 pursuits last year, an officer or supervisor terminated 61, compared to 52 aborted the year prior.
Last year, there were more vehicles damaged — 52 compared to 37 in 2020. Of the vehicles damaged in 2021, 17 belonged to police. Insp. James Oliver, who wrote the report, told the police commission that police see spikes in the number of stolen vehicles when vehicles are left running.Generally, vehicles have been stolen for joyrides, used in the commission of other events, or “parted out” and sold, Oliver explained.Article content
