The Transport Minister said he had directed the ministry's higher level management to carry out thorough research to standardise the BDM for commercial vehicles here and in Sabah and Sarawak.
"This has been a long outstanding issue and we are looking into having a more acceptable level, especially for industry players who have contributed much to the country's economic growth," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post Sunday after meeting the Sabah Federation of Lorry Transport Associations chairman Steven Chua and his committee at the Sandakan airport before leaving for Kuala Lumpur after a working visit to Sandakan.
"The issues discussed included, among others, the vast difference for the BDM of commercial vehicles in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah which was between 3,000kg to 13,000kg," the MCA president said in his post. Also present were Transport Ministry deputy secretary-general Normah Osman and Sabah Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board chairman Datuk Chin Kim Hiung.
