He said STARS was equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) as well as high-definition cameras and video analytics.

The Smart Traffic Light with Intelligence Analytic was made possible through a collaboration between Ipoh City Council and Telekom Malaysia Bhd.

“It can ease traffic flow by up to 51%, especially during peak hours,” he said in his speech during the city council’s monthly full board meeting. The traffic lights have been installed at the intersections of Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Laksamana; Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar; Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Raja Musa Aziz; and Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Raja Ekram.

He said Ipoh was also the first in the northern region to have access to 5G, after Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Johor Baru.“By the end of October, 98 more areas will have access to 5G in the Greater Ipoh Region,” he said, announcing that it was another collaboration between the city council and Telekom under the Ipoh Smart City blueprint.
