A wheel\u002Dhub assembly failure was found in one after an operator reported vibrations, a memo from the transit GM says.

The memo from Renée Amilcar to Mayor Jim Watson, other members of city council and members of the transit commission, said that the operator of the car had reported vibrations, leading to an inspection that revealed the failed part.

“Based on this finding, as a precaution, all trains with more than 175,000 km have been removed from service to undergo additional inspections, which are now underway,” the memo said. “ and Alstom are also conducting in-depth testing to determine the root cause of the failure on the affected wheel hub. OC Transpo and TRA are engaged in the ongoing testing and inspections.”Article content

“Safety of our customers and employees is OC Transpo’s number one priority, and RTM and Alstom have confirmed verbally and by letter that all trains in operation on Line 1 are safe,” Amilcar wrote, adding that trains would be returned to service “once the inspections are completed and they are deemed safe.”
