Essentially, Toyota believes that consumers should continue to have choices when it comes to their car's powertrain. Moreover, the Japanese automaker insists that those consumers will ultimately make the final decision when it comes to EV adoption.
This isn't the first time Toyota as an automaker, and/or one of its executives has suggested the market isn't ready for EV adoption for a number of reasons, including a lack of charging infrastructure and high starting prices. “I don’t think the market is ready. I don’t think the infrastructure is ready. And even if you were ready to purchase one, and if you could afford it … they’re still too high.”
Classic - let’s see how this plays out there
2030 is not a long way away. It is a short 8 years. Since late 2010 when EVs started selling, the US has ramped EV sales to what, 3% or 4%? Yes, getting to 50% in 8 years is not a smooth ride. Especially the need for so many factories to convert (along with demand necessary).
I fear for the Japanese economy as they got caught “slippin” .. Tesla,VW,and Hyundai over here saying
Again? It was Honda which said there were no demand for EVs a couple of years ago.
Toyota is so strategically challenged, it endangers their survival. They STILL don't get that the market is moving to EVs, just as quickly as manufacturers can ramp up. Sad, really.
Is it possible there is a lack of demand Because Toyota’s first EV has the slight problem of its wheels falling off?
Indeed, demand for Toyota EVs is lacking
