Greeley police are investigating a chop shop that contained five stolen motorcycles after an auto theft operation shut down the illegal activity.

Detectives from the Colorado State Patrol Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement, or BATTLE, North Team conducted a large-scale auto theft operation Friday that recovered two stolen cars and located a chop shop with five stolen motorcycles inside, according to a Greeley police news release.

In 2021, Colorado was ranked No. 1 in the nation for auto thefts and has continued to hold the title for the first six months of 2022, the release said. On Friday, detectives from BATTLE recovered two stolen and unoccupied Hyundais, valued at $56,505, at separate locations in Greeley, police said. The team processed both vehicles for additional evidence before returning the cars to their owners.
