Should taxes be raised on the wealthiest Californians in order to fund new climate projects and subsidies for electric cars? That's the question at the heart of Proposition 30.

Who should pay for climate projects and subsidies for electric cars? That's the question posed by California's Proposition 30.

California and Gov. Gavin Newsom want to ban gas-powered cars by 2035. Supporters of Proposition 30 say some the biggest polluters are diesel trucks, and this would help get them off the road. And here is the twist that surprised a lot of people, especially a lot of Democrats: Newsom opposes it. The governor and other opponents say Proposition 30 is a ploy by ride-share company Lyft, which has spent tens of millions of dollars backing the proposition."I think he misunderstands what's happening here. In fact, Lyft doesn't own cars. Lyft doesn't own infrastructure. I don't know that it's going to get any money from this measure," Zane said.

Raising taxes is never popular. This comes as Newsom is trying to raise his profile nationally and maybe run for president.

So why is the Great And Powerful OZ Governor against it?

How about tax the tree hugging liberals pushing this Climate crap. It’s your agenda, not ours, start a non profit, stop creating pointless taxes/propositions

Socialism at work. California can't help itself. Will have 0 impact on climate change. A money grab!!

california definition of rich = anyone making less than high 6 figures a year, meaning poorer are stuck with paying...

Awesome. The wealthiest 10% pay less taxes than the other 90%. Tax the rich.

Hell no!

When Newsome is staring in commercials for this Prop you know it a money grab. Right into his packet.

Can they tax them to pay for our gas?

They want to clean up the environment but can’t even clean up one block in DTLA lmao GTFO

They’ll just leave and CA will end up with less tax revenue. Go for it

Redistribution of wealth.

So stupid… what a great way to drive our tax base out of the state

Excellent!

Which will just take people's money and have exactly zero impact on climate. It's called 'fleecing people of their money'.
