More than 50 city and contractor snowplows, graders and other winter maintenance vehicles will be out on Greater Sudbury streets until Nov. 26 to complete annual training exercises to familiarize themselves with routes

There isn’t quite enough of the white stuff on the ground to necessitate a full-scale deployment of city resources for snow-clearing, but crews are preparing for that eventuality.

The test runs allow crews to identify potential hazards, obstacles and operational challenges before the full brunt of winter weather arrives. Other roads fill out the ranks and are maintained to a snow-packed and sanded status, with plowing commencing at eight centimetres of snow accumulation.
