2 killed, 10 hospitalized after a speeding, stolen car crashes into 7 other vehicles on the South Side, authorities say

Chicago police process the double fatal crash scene at 87th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago that sent 10 to hospitals on Nov. 23, 2022.

The car that caused the crash, a black Dodge Charger, raced north on the wrong side of the road before slamming into other vehicles and bursting into flames, Brown said. The car had been reported stolen in Markham earlier Wednesday, and a gun was found in the back of the vehicle, he said. The two occupants of the Charger died, Brown added.The names of those killed in the crash were not immediately available Thursday.

The superintendent did not say why the Charger had been speeding or how fast it was going but said an ongoing traffic investigation would lead to more answers. Police cameras caught the speeding car and the crash, he added.“We have to slow down,” Lightfoot said, adding that speed is a major cause of the over 100 traffic deaths that have occurred this year.
