It saves a lot of time in the mornings!

It looks like the freezing cold weather is sticking around for at least another few days, and Met Eireann has issued low temperature/ice warnings for the whole country. One helpful RSVP reader has shared her advice for keeping your windscreen and mirrors clear of ice in the first place, so you don't have to defrost them.

She added: "When going out and while the vehicle is warming up, remove the tarp, shake it off, wrap it in plastic and keep it in your vehicle. "You can then use it again when you get to work, it keeps your windshield and your mirrors clear! Try it!"This involves putting some warm water in a reusable plastic bag and tying it in a knot before dragging the bag over your windscreen and windows to melt any ice.

Meanwhile the Automobile Association has warned the Irish public not to use boiling water to defrost their windscreens. Paddy Comyn from the AA told NewsTalk Radio's Breakfast Briefing: "Our AA patrols are often called out to people because they have put a fresh kettle of boiling water across their windscreen, and it cracks windscreens quite a lot."Get the latest RSVP headlines straight to your inbox for free by signing up to our newsletter
