No fewer than 210 Niger Delta youths have been trained in various skill acquisition by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited. The beneficiaries were trained on automotive repairs, advanced welding, photography and video production, farm management, fashion designing, cosmetology and Information and Communication Technology.
Speaking at the graduation of the 2021/2022 batch of the scheme in Port Harcourt, yesterday, Mr. Andy Odeh, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Nigeria LNG, noted the training was aimed at equipping young Niger Deltans to support in developing their communities and Nigeria at large.
Odeh said the scheme is one of NLNG’s major human capital programmes for the development of skills of youths and equipping them to move from jobseekers to job creators. He said: “I am excited that this day has finally come. For the 2021 batch of Youth Empowerment Scheme, I am sure you all yearned for this day. We thought we could hold this important gathering earlier but were prevented by COVID-19 insurgence.“This is the first time we are combining graduation ceremony for two sets of YES graduates and we are happy that some of the graduates have indeed began practising their skills while some have even become employers of labour.
“We have kept faith with our over 110 host and pipeline communities in Rivers State to equip our youths with these requisite skills since 2004. Till date, over 1,400 trainees have been equipped with various skills.”
