Australia’s rail networks are having a “pivotal moment” due to demand for low-emissions transport and alternatives to planes and cars, says the global boss of French train maker Alstom.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said the program will make the state a “rail manufacturing powerhouse”.Australia does not yet have a high-speed rail line, but governments around the country are investing in heavy and light rail networks, as well as metros and trams.
