The campervan scene is exploiting Morecambe, causing problems for households and visitors, leaving waste effluent and contributing very little to the local economy, an angry resident has told Lancaster City Council.
Resident Suzanne Smith, of Marine Road, expressed her anger and anxiety at the alleged problems at the latest city council meeting. She also called for the city and county councils to provide designated areas for camper vans to free-up other parts of Morecambe.Mrs Smith said: “This is about parking in Marine Road particularly outside where I live. I used to live elsewhere in Morecambe but moved to my current house in 2021. I am speaking on behalf of a number of residents.
“The owners of these huge fancy vans are putting very little into the local economy. They spend very little but get great views across Morecambe Bay for days. There is also litter, maintenance work, water and effluent. “We have come to both the city council and county council because we are asking you to find a solution for residents and businesses of Morecambe.”
Coun Dowding said she and other city councillors had met Lancashire County Council, and a traffic regulation order for sections of Marine Road had been drafted by the county, which deals with highways.
Same at Fleetwood, they park for free, sod off to Blackpool and don't spend anything in the town.
