More than 1,400 hydro customers in Campbell River are starting the New Year without power.

1,400 hydro customersBC Hydro says a motor vehicle accident is to blame for an outage roughly south of 7th Avenue, north of Holm Road, west of the Island Highway and east of Mcphedran Road that’s affecting 1435 customers, plus another 24 customers in the 500-block of Colwyn Street and seven in the 200-block of Evergreen Road.

The power went out around 2:20 a.m. Sunday for most people, while those on Colwyn Street saw their electricity go out at 8:49 a.m., according to BC Hydro’sThe company says crews are on scene working to fix the issue and, in its latest updates, estimates the power will be restored by noon.
