Rail travel used to be like taking a 'flying palace,' but now it's hard to get where you want to goMaybe in North America. Trains in Europe are quick, reliable, and fun. Amtrak and ViaRail are relics.
Bring back radial rail to link rural towns!
I hope they can get some of the high speed trains. Would love to take a trip from St. Johns to Vancouver.
Except in places like Europe and China where light rail, subways, and high-speed rail are used by millions. North America is behind the times.
That what? The sentence isn't finished yet
Defund the CBC
Bring back the train. Make it high speed. We just can’t rely on planes anymore.
Dreaming. Europe has a massive population to help support rail. Major cities are often close together. You might be able to justify high speed in parts of Ontario. Forget running it across Canada.
Train travel takes FOREVER! No smoking option for those who want to. And in the north it's a hellscape.
Don’t run a passenger train through the wilds of Northern Ontario and Manitoba - ignoring the more populous, and more scenic NWOntario - and expect anyone to take it. Oh, yeah…the price is crazy stupid, too.
So was a plane and greed wrecked it
The solution is clean energy and electric cars and less travel (local vacations, mandatory teleworking where possible). Later on maybe electric planes. There's nothing romantic or luxurious in spending 5 days in a train to get from Vancouver to Toronto.
Have you ever looked at the cost of a train trip for vacation? No wonder people fly.
Nothing will compete with just brute forcing a hole through the rockies to link all of Canada's major cities using Maglev
Luxury these days is doing it without other people around!
Just look at Europe and you’ll see the future of rail in Canada. Trains can go as fast as airplanes.
I think it's just North America where rail travel is bad, because of lack of infrastructure and investment. It's an amazing (and more ecological) way to get around - I wish Canada would look to the UK and Europe for ideas here
Have edged out an option that....? What?
