Too many new buildings have too many parking places, by law. The city should reduce the amount of land devoted to cars, so more housing can be built.

, a state law passed this year that abolishes all parking minimums near mass transit stops, is a great first step to allow denser development and avoid wasting space. We must do much more.making housing units more expensive than they need to be

. A small studio apartment would require one parking spot, meaning a single 400-square-foot studio would actually require more than 715 square feet of total space, even if residents didn’t have cars or want a parking space. A single subterranean parking space can add $35,000 of cost to a buildingWithout the cost of parking, a developer could make the same investment and build 20% to 33% more units than is possible in the same footprint under the current parking minimums.

I agree that ‘Parking Minimums’ should be reexamined by city authorities. There are many locations such as shopping centers that have many parking spaces, and they rarely get filled to capacity.

Totally disagree. LA has a parking crisis in the absence of viable, safe public transportation. I for one and sick to death paying a fortune to valets, parking meters, etc. Parking has become a giant revenue grab for cities and private industry to the detriment of its residents.

yeah, being able to find parking in LA sucks 🙄

Instead of parking minimums, there should be parking maximums. For new development, the parking maximum should be 1 or none.

More parking in the entire world than cars. It's dumb as fuck.

schneider we can’t get rid of parking minimums until metrolosangeles is safe and clean at all hours of the day. Focus on fixing and expanding mass transit first.

So wait no where to park us a good thing?

Seriously? do you know what a nightmare it is to find parking in most of LA? This is ridiculous
