Cars don't need warming up - even if you do

Drivers are being warned over engine idling as many wrongly believe that the wasteful practice can help in preserving their motors.

As well as offering no benefits, leaving your engine on to heat up your vehicle can actually damage the car's spark plugs, cylinders and exhaust, according to experts. More than four in 10 admitted to engine idling at least three times per week while over million motorists idle every single day during winter months.

The IET has also stated that restarting the car does not increase fuel consumption after it has been off for a short period of time.
