Four firefighters who were in the truck when it was struck on Interstate 680 early on Saturday morning were treated for minor injuries, said Tracie Dutter, assistant chief of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
The driver was declared dead at the scene, Dutter said. California Highway Patrol Officer Adam Lane said it was not clear whether the driver may have been intoxicated or whether the Tesla Model S was operating with automation or driving assistance features. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating how Tesla's Autopilot system detects and responds to emergency vehicles parked on highways.Dutter said the truck had its lights on and was parked diagonally on northbound lanes of the freeway to protect responders to an earlier accident that did not result in injuries.
The fatal accident occurred about 4am, and it took several hours to clear the freeway. The fire truck had to be towed away.

Why do they say “A Tesla driver”? Is there a bad naming intention there? O never heard accident news with headings like “A Toyota driver has died” or a “A Mercedes driver has died” before hmmm dodgy news to me
They name the brand because the Tesla is full of safety and avoidance systems to stop collisions, so the question needs to be asked, how did this catastrophic and fatal accident happen? Unfortunately, as someone died the wording in the article is crass to say the least.

This often very tragic reality is not specifically isolated significantly in learner/advanced driver training. As with sport, we can hit exactly what we point or LOOK at. It takes considerable effort not to look at emergency vehicles/crashes or stopped cars
