Toronto officials are making a last-minute plea for drivers to move their vehicles in order for crews to remove the piles of snow blocking traffic and infrastructure.

Up to 30 centimetres of snow fell on the city in under 16 hours over the weekend during a winter storm that caused power outages as well as thunder and lightening. As of Monday, vehicles are prohibited from parking on designated snow routes to allow crews to remove snow piles that may be restricting traffic flow as well as interfering with parking and pedestrian infrastructure.

Vincent Sferrazza, director of operations and maintenance of transportation for the City of Toronto, said he expected the snow removal process to begin Monday evening. Under a major snowstorm condition, vehicles parked on one of the 150 areas across Toronto designated as “snow routes” could be towed and the drivers could be subject to a fine up to $200.on their websiteThe last time the city performed snow removal after a storm was in January 2022, after a blizzard dropped up to 50 centimetres of snow. The cost of the snow removal was about $17 million, according to a post-operational report.

It’s been over 3 days since the snow came, the city is just cleaning it up now⁉️😲 cityoftoronto DoBetter

They’re just starting now. Were they all on a smoke break for three days?

If this applies to you, just park your car or motorhome at any TTC stop, we know the cityoftoronto is not even remotely interested in removing the snow banks from there. Anyone else think Toronto feels like Detroit was back in the 90's when it was dying?

Good.

So glad I don’t live in the olde GTA

We should be fining the city for the absolute garbage job they did with respect to removal. Sidewalks still covered in mounds of ice and snow, bike lanes fully blocked and unusually, intersections with snow islands.

See that’s the problem .. you “could” face a fine. It should be you “will” face a fine.

Ha ha ha, I live in Saskatchewan where we walk on top of the snow....

Hopefully there is a CommonSense approach taken to ticketing. A grandmother's car that can't move because it's been snowed in should not be treated the same as the 4x4 pickup that stopped for 20 minutes to grab pizza while the plow went by.

'gets underway'? What's been going on for the past two days?

Where will Zalenskis wife spend the money ?

One of many reasons I don’t live in TO.

How do you expect cars to move out if road crews buried the cars by plowing snow onto the side.

What about the contractor that dropped a large pile in the middle lane on Don Mills just south of Eglinton. I eneded up running into it and did extensive damage to my vehicle.

City desperate for money

There are sidewalks in my hood that are the city's responsibility that are blocked with 4 feet of snow. Can i send a ticket to the mayor?

Alot of people on side streets can get fined If they enforce it.

The city issued the same warning after the Jan 17/22 storm but they only ticketed and moved cars when the snow removal team was actually there working at that location. That's when the big orange signs went up.

Unless you have your SUV's four-way flashers going as you go in to fetch your all important coffee, of course.

Most municipalities require parked cars to be moved during snow removal operations. I never understood why this rule was not enforced in Toronto.

It's not their fault the city is poorly designed though.
