SAN DIEGO – The San Diego City Attorney’s Office sued automakers Hyundai and Kia today for allegedly failing to equip their vehicles with sufficient anti-theft technology, which the city says contributed to a recent uptick in car thefts throughout San Diego.

The city’s lawsuit covers the period stretching from 2011 to 2021, when it claims other carmakers adopted the safety feature while Hyundai and Kia “failed to keep up with the times.” The City Attorney’s Office alleges that 146 Hyundai and Kia cars were stolen in San Diego during the first six months of 2022, and 369 cars were taken in the last six months of the year.

“Hyundai’s and Kia’s decisions to put cost savings and profits over public safety has had significant consequences for San Diego and its residents, leading to a substantial increase in vehicle thefts, reckless driving, related crime sprees, and public harm.”

Hahahahaha....clown show. If I leave my car unattended and running, I'm stupid. But if someone takes it, it's still theft.

That’s like blaming the lock on the front door of your house when someone breaks into your home Me: “Arrest the burglar!” San Diego City Attorney: “No way, we’re going to sue the people who didn’t make your door lock unbreakable.”

Ha, it’s the people who beat the hell out of the asian delivery guy on a daily basis and a Jew if they happen to be in the neighborhood, talk about victim shaming, u can’t make this up

“The car’s skirt was too short.”

Is this the “your dress was too short therefore you deserved it” accusation.

The dems will now solve the gun violence problem by suing the victims for not wearing sufficient body armor.

Amazing other cities haven't reported an uptick in stolen Kia or Hyundai

The city could, you know, try prosecuting the criminals who steal the cars. But no, they have to blame it on the manufacturer for thieves stealing the cars.

This is Asian hate

Since when is antitheft tech mandated for new cars?

This is the most asinine thing I have read today.

Can we sue Scotland for damage caused by drunk drivers who prefer Scotch whiskey?

Why is Kia and Hyundai stealing cars in SD? That's terrible! There should be laws against stealing cars in SD, just to be safe!

Blaming the dressmaker.

If only there was a way to stop criminals in San Diego.

Don’t blame the criminals, blame the victims.

Next they will blame rape victims for not wearing a chastity belt.

Liberals suck

georgesoros has to be behind this. Has to be.

Sounds like some 80s auto industry tactics to me. People buying more Kia / Hyundai_Global - better get lobbyists to the govt offices, to put pressure on competition.

Signs of a well functioning government, suing the companies that support the citizens and making government possible and blaming the company for their own failures. This can't last much longer.

Idiocy. How about you focus on fixing the Baghdad quality roads

🤣🤣🤣

They use to hang horse thieves.

this is about to be case law for 'well I was able to rob the bank, so it's their fault'.... electrify them steering wheels Hyundai_Global and then blame the criminals for not being able to take a shock.. lol good citizens about to fight back

dEfUnD tHe PoLiCe 🤡

San Diego City to sue SDSU for students that signed loan papers 🤣

So it’s the car makers fault San Diego has criminals. Get real

Typical politicians.Blaming everyone but themselves

One clearly has to be subpar intellect to hold office in this city 🤦🏼‍♂️

Yeah, that makes since it's their fault that the cars get stolen. They should be suing themselves for a f&$led up legal system

San Diego to sue Yale and Schlage lock manufacturers for home burglaries.

Oh please...

Not a fan, unless someone can explain to me why I should want this?

Kia and Hyundai_Global should counter sue the city for cutting on law enforcement and NEGLIGENCE. People are getting shot at, mugged, stolen, hit, kidnapped and abused left and right. So its a car maker’s fault criminals are on the loose?

🤦🏻‍♀️

Once again the city is unable to take responsibility...what a shame. Vote these people out!

You think anti theft technology is going to stop thieves from stealing cars? Seriously! If they win the case, will the owners of stolen cars get the money? Of course they won’t.

Lol it's the cars fault 🤣 😂 😭

Why do those people hold any power?

Really? It's San Diego city's fault for not'installing' law enforcement policies to prevent this. Fewls

Buy a car, park it downtown, don’t deal with crime, blame the auto maker for theft. Solid plan. We’re in good hands.
