“People started recognizing my name a lot more, following me more, and everything started to grow and grow for me,” said O’Ward, who was 6 years old when he drove a go-kart for the first time.In 2014, he competed in the French F4 Championship. In 2015, O’Ward debuted in the Pro Mazda Championship with Team Pelfrey, driving in the series at just 16 years of age.
In 2019, the Mexican driver was scheduled to debut in the IndyCar Series driving for Harding Steinbrenner Racing.In 2020, O’Ward received his big break in the IndyCar Series when he was signed by the Arrow McLaren team and his 2021 win at Texas Motor Speedway led him to become the first Mexican driver to win a race in that category since Adrián Fernández in 2004.
