These are expected to be the toughest emissions standards yet, a move that should push the industry even more in the direction of EVs.

, automakers have been pushing behind the scenes to delay implementation of the new emission limits for "a few years," but we won't learn more until the proposed rules are released this week. The EPA sets emissions standards for new vehicles sold in the U.S. in batches. For example, emissions rules for 2021–2026 model year vehicles were finalized in the spring of 2020. Those rules ended up being less strict than initially proposed.

The new standards are set to be announced Wednesday. The EPA is also expected to update emissions rules for heavy-duty trucks and power plants this month. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is also expected to announce its new fuel economy standards in April.

Where id all the electric going to come from?

Are they going to address the CAFE shortcomings that pushed US Auto Market towards truck based SUVs and huge pickups that were exempted? Or are they just going to kill the non EV car market?

Better made personal transportation out of reach of many common people and force them to stay home or travel by public transport only. After sometime also make public transport so expensive so that they stay home and start doing agriculture…. Voila … we save environment.

It’s called CAFE regulation

It's not going to happen...they just don't know it yet. Prices of used ICE cars will go up and potentially exceed the prices of the electric cars. People will be unwilling to allow total control over transportation. Changes will come soon.

Is the accelerated transition to electric vehicles inevitable or dependent on who we vote for?

It’s not an EV thing. It’s an anti-pollution thing. Fossil fuel burners are damaging our health, and that of the planet. We need to get much more aggressive on phasing them out use.

no thanks

All the while the charging network for EVs is terrible (except Tesla…where lines are long). We are no where close to be having the infrastructure for EVs to be more mainstream….

Ridiculous!! And governments want more ethanol in our gas to give us worse gas mileage 🤦‍♂️ Seriously!! This EV thing is going too far 🙄

Just pursue a lawsuit over which one causes more harm to the environment and shut the bureaucrats down.
