Pictures taken from the scene show the aftermath of the collision with the seats at the top of the vehicle left exposed. Police traffic officers shared a picture of the damage on Twitter.
A number of police vehicles could also be seen in attendance. One witness who contacted the M.E.N said there were no passengers on board at the time. "I thought it was going to stop when they realised the height restriction but it just carried on. Luckily there were no passengers on board. Greater Manchester Police also shared a picture of the crash, announcing that the road was closed, with the Ports Authority also called to assess the damage. It is unclear if there were any injuries in the incident, but the M.E.N has contacted the force for more details.
