"Fifteen-minute cities" envision access to shops, parks, schools, and hospitals within a 15-minute walk or bike ride—is that so bad?

Every initiative to clear personal cars from clogged cities stresses the importance of excellent, affordable transit. Don’t see that on too many politicians’ blotters, but we should all be tired of cars being king. If governments are happy to give out steep incentives to those buying electric cars, they should consider that “

of between $200 and $1,700 to people who buy e-bikes…Michigan, Vermont, and Oregon offer additional rebates.” Canada is a huge country, and for the many living in rural regions, this discussion isn’t about you. But think of how many could benefit from this kind of planning. When your kid moves out for school or work, the first thing you do is check out how they will get around. For many, it’s the first time they realize how truly ragged or non-existent transit is in too many of our cities. We have seniors who may keep driving long past when it’s safe because they have little choice.

drivingdotca If I knew we would have a pedestrian area in Nashua New Hampshire

drivingdotca People and old LIKE to drive. Did you ever think of that? I walk/bike for exercise and loath public transit. I don't care if the bus takes me from my house to the grocery store, we hate taking it. The traffic issues are from lack of skill and stupid planning.

drivingdotca worship cars? o.O

drivingdotca If it was about well planned communities that don't need cars it wouldn't be a problem. The problem comes from the restrictions that will be placed on the citizens when this comes to pass. 'Oh, you left your designated 15 minute city, that's a fine.'

drivingdotca I'm not scared of well planned communities that don't worship cars but I'd never choose to live in one. To each their own. I like driving, it's convenient and fun. If that offends anyone, I do not apologize for it.

drivingdotca Not scared, just not eager to hand over our rights re freedom of movement. Especially when the group C40 cities puts out info like this, it's not going to stop at 15 minutes cities. Toronto & Vancouver are part of this group.

drivingdotca

drivingdotca Because it'll all be planned out by government and they fail at everything.

drivingdotca Who’s doing the planning? 🤨 Nope.

drivingdotca Most cities are full of liberal narcissistic ass hats 👒, who wants people like that as your neighbor?

drivingdotca because even if i worked and shopped within a 15 minutes walk, i'd still need a car for visiting friends and family. public transit is garbage.

drivingdotca The issue is Trust. Over the past few years we have lost trust in government. Tyrannical controls were put on people. Vaccines, CBDC's and 15 minutes cities could be fine. The trouble is they can all be used to impose control. Government has squandered the trust we had in them.

drivingdotca We aren’t scared. We just want to be able to get around in our cars.

drivingdotca Communists had the idea to move ppl from houses to apartments...to control them better!! No tx..I love my privacy, I love my river in the backyard...no neighbors!!!

drivingdotca I mean, only your boomer columnists are scared.

drivingdotca I love my car!! I don't like having a dozen strangers around...with knifes or guns!! Why you need to blame ppl

drivingdotca I love european walkable cities. But people are getting sick of having their lives 'engineered' by 'experts' who put together a good-looking 'model'. Do it with carrots, if you must. But no sticks.

drivingdotca Because they constantly failed when Soviets tried them. But NP would respond they weren't using the right kind of communism.

drivingdotca Walking weather isnt common. Either raining, snowing or way to hot.

drivingdotca Because more than half of the country doesn't live a large urban setting. Duh

drivingdotca

drivingdotca Something about limiting movement and being fined just sticks in our craw I guess.

drivingdotca Not everyone wants to live in the big city. Some of us like our suburbia and rural areas. If you want that 15 min lifestyle, great enjoy it, but it’s not everyone’s dream.

drivingdotca I've seen In Time. It's not a stretch to think it could happen in reality (minus the skin clocks of course).

drivingdotca Because we live in Canada? 15 minutes communities don’t work well when you have a population of 3 per sq. Mile. Might work in Europe….we are not in Europe.

drivingdotca Urbanists: Maybe it would be nice for people to have easy car-free access to all the places they want to go Angry internet people: I will not fall for this obvious illuminati mind-control ploy

drivingdotca Because Regent Park and St. Jamestown were award-winning well-planned communities.

drivingdotca Because we don’t want to live like rats.

drivingdotca Because this type of community reinforces class division i.e. wealthy vs middle and poor class and creates slums.

drivingdotca Because not everyone is in great health, because public transit does not run 24 hrs a day, because public transit is not safe, because public transit often breaks down in inclement weather.

drivingdotca WEF bull crap

drivingdotca Mainly because after convincing millions of Canadians to inject themselves with an experimental MrNA they do not trust gov anymore... and also MSM media.

drivingdotca They’re testing it out in Toronto. If 15 minutes cities come a lot of people will leave the cities and switch back to remote work.

drivingdotca People aren’t scared of well planed cities, this is a narrative building article. People are worried of governments dictating what Canadians can and cannot own, under the guise of this bull crap and climate alarmism.

drivingdotca those same people who do not worship cars have no problem bumming rides lol

drivingdotca NP promoting 15-min cities. They're not on our side.

drivingdotca Because these unelected planners are clogging our streets with objects and traffic calming nonsense that makes it miserable to get around, while telling us how great it is and how happy we all are.

drivingdotca Winter 🥶

drivingdotca Because it infringes on free choice! Why should taxpayers be confined to 15 min neighbourhoods while the politicians drive & fly all over? Big NO!

drivingdotca It’s the Trojan horse to open air prisons.

drivingdotca That’s not it. That sounds amazing. We are afraid of dictates and social engineering from the Davos crowd.

drivingdotca 'well-planned'

drivingdotca Because not everyone who works in a community lives within walking distance. You gonna figure out a way to make my husband's 3 and 1/2 hour (one way) commute on public transit get down to the 45minutes it takes by car?

drivingdotca

drivingdotca

drivingdotca Worship cars! 😂 This from the msm who apparently hates the freedom & choices cars give to every individual. They want us living in pods & subservient to a Liberalndp government.

drivingdotca Not doing it, I will have my car and go where and WHEN I WANT, quit misinterpreting it

drivingdotca What a way to word it! 🥴

drivingdotca This is another woke project. Firstly how are 'we' going to reconstruct cities? Canada in winter? How can anyone quickly build transport systems? On and on... There have been tests in England and it's not going well. The anti-car group is urban woke who live near bus/subways.

drivingdotca Who is this 'we' you speak of?

drivingdotca They’re called 15-minute cities

drivingdotca Big difference between planned and imposed. I look forward to seeing the results, I wish them well, I do really!

drivingdotca Freedom of mobility, perhaps?

drivingdotca This is Canada, you will be frost-bitten waiting at a bus stop!

drivingdotca To be honest, most of Canadians don't 'worship' cars. Cars are a necessity. You seldom see fancy cars here not practical. Please be careful when you speak of whatever you try to say.

drivingdotca We're not - you are

drivingdotca Because the majority of us can't afford to live in places with good walkability. We're being pressured to give up our cars before a working alternative is in place.

drivingdotca Why are you afraid of cars? This 15 minute city stuff is to make people accept being herded to gether like cattle so that we can 'settle' more and more immigrants and get used to never owning a home but renting small boxes for your family.

drivingdotca Because the Teflon Don will get his pair of concrete shoes if he doesn't deliver on his highways. Greedy corporations are counting on him.... OR ELSE

drivingdotca Can we start arresting the environmental activists for deliberately sabotaging the country for some would-be crisis that's not even measurable? They've caused more harm to Canadians than any other extremist groups on earth and they have the potential for creating mass famines.

drivingdotca Like anything as long as it's not forced on people have at it. This is the problem nowadays. Everyone wants to force their morality/vision in every one else. Live and let live and we'd have significantly less tension. 15 minute citi a are cool for some, abhorrent for others.

drivingdotca The Canadian government destroys communities, they don't plan them.

drivingdotca Any politician voting for these 'well-planned communities' must live in one they voted for. Let's see how much they want 'well-planned communities' then.

drivingdotca Because certain ppl and media call that communism and a ton of ignorant ppl eat it up without a thought

They're working hard on behalf of the Trudeau government to corral us into pods & make us subservient to his government. drivingdotca because radicalized American conservatives have a knee-jerk, ideological over-reaction to the word 'planned'. For them, only random market outcomes are allowed in any context, no matter how perverse or wasteful.
