BMW issues do not drive order for E39 M5, 90,000 other cars.

BMW of North America has issued a do not drive order for 90,000 cars built from 2000 to 2006. The order is related to dangerous Takata airbag inflators, which had already been recalled but have not been repaired on the remaining cars.

The announcement covers E46-generation 3-Series models built between 2000 and 2006, E39-generation 5-Series models built between 2000 and 2003, and X5s built in the E53 generation from 2000 to 2004. The order for both the E46 and E39 includes their M variants, meaning that every previously-recalled E46 M3 and E39 M5 that has not already been repaired under the existing recall has been deemed unsafe until those repairs are complete.
