Residents in Sandy’s Willow Creek neighborhood are feeling the effects of police action taken a month ago to slow down speeding cars that had flipped and plowed through mailboxes. When 2News talked with Oakley in the beginning of May he said neighbors would witness drivers going as fast as 70 miles-per-hour along their residential street.Since then, Oakley said a couple of fathers approached him after the incidents, saying they would talk to their sons about more responsible driving.
“It’s part of the beauty of having the liberty of driving and the responsibility that you could kill somebody very easily,” Oakley said. Sandy City Police Department Sgt. Greg Moffitt said there’s been an uptick in speeding over the last year and a half.Moffitt said police will issue fewer warnings and more tickets.“Have we gotten to a point where we’ve actually created a slower and more awareness? Yeah, I have actually,” Oakley said.
