Operators of the international bridge between the two Saults are proposing toll hikes that would span the next decade. However, they also plan to enhance the discounts given to frequent users of the bridge, built in 1962.
"The revenue generated by the revised toll rates will help the bridge preserve its critical cross-border connection in the face of higher operational and maintenance costs," the bridge authority said in a news release. Commuter program participants making up to four crossings per month would see a 10% discount. Commuters making five to eight crossings per month would see a 25% discount. Those crossing nine or more times per month would realize a 35% discount.
