Despite a 2018 study predicting that more autonomous vehicles could mean more sexy time on the road, the taxi’s rules of “no inappropriate behavior” seems to have forgotten that while the cars are robotic, the passengers are all too human. Cruise operates about 300 vehicles at night and 100 during the day, and Waymo has a fleet of 250 robotaxis in service. At the time they were described as trailblazers, but recently concerns over hygiene have trumped concerns around safety.One passenger who admitted to having sex in a driverless taxi said that it has become a common practice amongst the folks in his ‘circle’. He even admitted to having had sex in robotaxis three times already.

A 2018 study by Scott Cohen and Debbie Hopkins in the Annals of Tourism Research journal predicted that passengers might use“Hotels-by-the-hour are likely to be replaced by connected and autonomous vehicles ,” the researchers wrote. “This will have implications for urban tourism, as sex plays a central role in many tourism experiences.The study even mentioned that the experience could be put to commercial use, as in a version of Amsterdam’s Red Light District ‘on the move.
