During the chase, the Honda drove on the shoulder to pass other cars, hit at least two vehicles and one street sign and finally came to a stop in the a yard...

The officer got out the police vehicle and yelled “Get on the ground” and “Stop.” As the driver opened the rear door on the driver’s side of the Honda, the officer repeatedly yelled “Stop” and, at one point, “I’m going to shoot you.”The footage shows as the driver reached his right arm into the backseat — less than 10 seconds after getting out of the vehicle — the officer fired his weapon at least five times before the driver fell to the ground.

Paredes did not specify how many times the driver was hit. Police said additional responding officers performed first aid on the teen before he was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police said officers recovered a .45-caliber Taurus handgun from the vehicle with three rounds in the magazine. In a picture provided by police, the gun is located on the floor of the driver’s seat, next to the gas and brake pedals.Paredes said the officer believed the driver was reaching for a weapon. A report the department filed with the Texas attorney general’s office notes that the teen “did not carry, exhibit, or use a deadly weapon.

The officer, whose name was not released, has been with the department for 14 years, with eight of them as an officer. The Dallas County district attorney’s office and the Mesquite Police Department’s internal affairs division are investigating the shooting, police said.
