Last month was the busiest July on record for car sales, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, with 96,859 new cars delivered, a nearly 15 per cent increase on last July.
Battery electric cars accounted for just 7 per cent of those sales, with a further 10 per cent of vehicles classified as low- or zero-emissions vehicles.The Grattan Institute expects more fuel-efficient and electric vehicles on the road once the federal government institutes a fuel-efficiency standard later this year.
