An innocent driver is dead and others injured after a stolen car slammed into a group of vehicles that were stopped at a red light in southeast Houston, police say.

According to Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner, the woman was the mother of a Houston police sergeant. Chief Finner says the incident began when a driver was carjacked on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, the vehicle owner used the car’s tracking system to tell officers where the vehicle was located.Chief Finner says officers found the stolen vehicle with two suspects inside near Jutland and Belfort and initiated a pursuit, but they quickly lost sight of the vehicle. The police chief says the officers then got on the radio and told the dispatcher.
