Canadian union Unifor and Ford Motor are still negotiating ahead of a strike deadline late Tuesday after a “substantive offer” from Ford.

Canadian union Unifor is still in discussions with Ford Motor with just hours to go before an 11:59 p.m. Tuesday strike deadline.

The union announced earlier Tuesday that it had extended the talks for 24 hours after getting a “substantive offer” minutes before the original deadline on Monday night.Unifor represents about 18,000 auto workers in Canada as their American counterparts at the United Auto Workers remain on strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis. Unifor’s contract expired in September, and opened bargaining up in August.

A potential strike would affect Ford’s Oakville Assembly Plant, which produces the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus crossovers and V-8 engine plants for the F-series pickups and Mustangs, CNBC reported.
