Change moves the UK into line with many other European countries.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the planned ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be pushed back from 2030 until 2035.

The prime minister also said that the UK needs to ‘strengthen the UK’s auto industry so it is not reliant on heavily subsided imports from countries like China’. RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “This announcement risks slowing down both the momentum the motor industry has built up in switching to electric powertrains and ultimately the uptake of electric vehicles that is so important when it comes to decarbonising road transport in the UK.
