A North Lanarkshire surgeon is set to run the Berlin marathon in memory of a colleague who died.

Surgeon Gavin Bryce is taking on the challenge this Sunday, September 24, to help fundraise for Motor Neuron Disease following the tragic death of a colleague.Gavin, a consultant surgeon at University Hospital Wishaw, said: “MND is a progressive life-shortening disease that can affect any age and can progress at any rate. Sadly, this was the case for a great colleague, Sandra Jardine, who was a dietician working with us in the Upper Gastro-Intestinal surgical unit of University Hospital Wishaw.

“Sandra was a valued and integral part of the team and helped shape and improve the service. She was also a fantastic colleague and we all miss her so much since she passed away just under a year ago. “Her diagnosis, illness and death happened at too young an age and too quickly. She was selfless and hardworking and her loss was not only a shock but was felt deeply by us all.

“She will always be remembered for being a great colleague who was dedicated to her patients and it is only right that something is given back in her name and honour.Sandra lived in Motherwell with her husband Graeme and their two daughters, Lucy and Amy.
