South Africans have a strong affection for SUVs and bakkies, and according to AutoTrader’s car sales data for the first half of 2023, the most sold used SUV in the country is the Toyota Fortuner.
In the first six months of this year, SUVs accounted for a significant 33% of all used car sales. The Toyota Fortuner, listed on AutoTrader with an average price of R465 196, an average mileage of 105 428km, and an average age of six years, claimed the top spot among used SUVs in South Africa. Hatchbacks made up a substantial 26% of used car sales among all body types. It comes as no surprise that three Volkswagen models secured the top three positions in this category. The Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Polo Vivo took the first and second places, respectively. Interestingly, the Volkswagen Golf, ranking third in used hatchback sales for the first half of 2023, also held the second position as the most searched-for car model during the same period.
