Honda plans to continue ramping back up production of the Civic at its Alliston, Ont. campus, as Canadian demand for entry-level vehicles intensifies amid rising sticker prices.

The Civic’s longtime rival, the Toyota Corolla, was the best-selling car in Canada for 2022. Toyota sold 33,096 Corollas, surpassing the Civic total of 29,722. Higher costs are another issue as Canadians seek relief from the steep rise in vehicle prices since the pandemic. Average new-vehicle costs have climbed substantially in the interim as well. According to AutoTrader.ca’s quarterly analysis, average vehicle prices hit $66,288 in the second quarter of this year, versus $40,386 to end 2019.
