All lanes of traffic were shut down on State Route 73 after a crash involving three vehicles that seriously injured two people on Oct. 7, 2023. Those who live in Eagle Mountain said they expect to see a crash when they take State Road 73 after witnessing several bad crashes on their commute. However, the Utah Department of Transportation and Eagle Mountain City said they meet monthly to look at how they can improve safety on the roads.
In the video, you can see a 17-year-old driver drifting over the median, crashing head-on into a car in the eastbound lane, and rolling into a third car.2News asked Eagle Mountain City Communications Manager Tyler Maffitt what the city can do to make the road safer. The Utah County Sheriff’s office provided 2News with data showing how many crashes have occurred on SR-73 from August 2022 to October 2023.“A lot of it comes down to driving behavior unfortunately and those are the things that you can’t always engineer against,” Gleason said.
